Old-Fashioned Goulash (American Style)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Heat the Olive Oil:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. SautĂŠ Onion and Garlic:
Add the diced yellow onion and minced garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
  3. Brown the Meat:
Add ground beef or turkey. Cook while breaking up the meat with a spoon until fully browned and no pink remains. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Add Liquids and Sauce:
Stir in the tomato sauce, water, and beef broth. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Simmer:
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Serve:
Once thickened and fragrant, serve hot in bowls. Optional: top with shredded cheese or a dollop of sour cream.
