Old-Fashioned Cake Donuts with Vanilla Glaze

For the Vanilla Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Oven & Pan

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease a 12-cavity donut pan or use non-stick spray.

2️⃣ Make the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, beaten eggs, vanilla, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

3️⃣ Fill & Bake

  • Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ⅔ full.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
  • Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.

4️⃣ Make the Glaze

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, letting the excess drip off.
  3. Place back on the rack to allow the glaze to set.
