Mini Air Fryer Blooming Onions – Crispy, Golden, Bite-Sized Perfection

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep the Onions

  1. Peel the onions and cut off the top (pointed end), leaving the root end intact.
  2. Make 4–6 evenly spaced cuts down from the top, stopping about ½ inch from the root to keep the base intact.
  3. Gently separate the layers (petals) to help the coating penetrate.

2. Prepare the Coating Stations

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the buttermilk.
  3. Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl or dish.

3. Coat the Onions

  1. Dip each prepared onion into the flour mixture, making sure to get it between the petals.
  2. Next, dip into the egg-buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  3. Finally, coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs, pressing them gently between layers for a good crunch.
