👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prep the Onions
- Peel the onions and cut off the top (pointed end), leaving the root end intact.
- Make 4–6 evenly spaced cuts down from the top, stopping about ½ inch from the root to keep the base intact.
- Gently separate the layers (petals) to help the coating penetrate.
2. Prepare the Coating Stations
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the buttermilk.
- Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl or dish.
3. Coat the Onions
- Dip each prepared onion into the flour mixture, making sure to get it between the petals.
- Next, dip into the egg-buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
- Finally, coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs, pressing them gently between layers for a good crunch.
