KFC-Style Gravy (Copycat Recipe)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the Roux:
    In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk constantly to form a smooth paste. Cook the roux for about 2–3 minutes until golden and fragrant (this step adds depth of flavor).
  2. Add Seasonings:
    Stir in the onion powder, white pepper, and sea salt. Continue whisking to evenly incorporate the seasonings.
  3. Add Broth & Simmer:
    Slowly pour in the chicken broth and water while whisking to avoid lumps. Add the beef bouillon granules and continue whisking until fully dissolved.
  4. Simmer & Thicken:
    Bring the gravy to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  5. Adjust & Serve:
    Taste and adjust salt or seasonings if needed. Remove from heat and serve warm over mashed potatoes, fried chicken, or stuffing.
