Step 1: Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9Ć5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Prepare the Batter
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar with a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and sour cream. Mix until smooth.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combinedādo not overmix.
- Fold in diced apples and optional nuts until evenly distributed.
Step 3: Assemble the Bread
- Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar for the topping, then sprinkle evenly over the top of the batter.
Step 4: Bake
- Bake for 55ā65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs.
- If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the final 10 minutes.
