🌙 Cool Nights + Longer Darkness = Explosion of Blooms
The trick is all about creating the right environment for your cactus to bloom:
- Cool Night Temperatures (55–65°F / 13–18°C): These cooler temperatures signal the plant to begin its blooming cycle. Place your cactus near a draft-free window or move it to a cooler room at night. Avoid placing it near heating vents or warm appliances, which can interfere with this process.
- 12–14 Hours of Darkness Each Night: This is the game-changer! After sunset, move the cactus to a dark closet or cover it with a breathable dark cloth or box. Make sure the darkness is uninterrupted—any light leaks will reset the blooming cycle. The extended dark period mimics the natural conditions of the plant’s environment and encourages it to flower.
In just a few weeks, you’ll start to notice tiny bud nubs forming at the ends of each segment—an exciting sign that your cactus is gearing up to bloom! 🎉
