Mississippi Mud Cake Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the cake batter: In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder together until smooth and well-combined. This will create a rich, chocolatey base for the cake.
  3. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then add the flour, salt, and vanilla extract, and stir until the batter is smooth and uniform. The batter should be thick and velvety.
  4. Fold in the pecans: If you’re using pecans, gently fold them into the batter. The nuts will add texture and a lovely crunch to the cake, complementing the soft, gooey marshmallow topping.
  5. Bake the cake: Pour the batter into the prepared 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out with just a few moist crumbs. The cake should be firm but still slightly soft in the center.
