Serving & Storage Tips
This creamy baked mac and cheese is perfect for serving as a side dish, or you can enjoy it as a main dish with a side salad or vegetables. The crispy breadcrumb topping adds a satisfying crunch to the soft, cheesy interior.
Storage:
- Store any leftover mac and cheese in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven to restore some of the creaminess.
- If you want to freeze it, let it cool completely, then transfer it to a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 1-2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the oven.
Tips:
- If you prefer a spicier mac and cheese, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the cheese sauce.
- For an even richer flavor, consider adding cooked bacon, sautéed onions, or even a little Dijon mustard to the cheese sauce.
- If you don’t have breadcrumbs, you can skip them or top with a sprinkle of extra cheese for a gooey, cheesy crust.
