Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10×15-inch sheet pan (jelly roll pan) and set aside.
- Make the Cake Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add the sour cream and eggs, and mix until smooth.
- Cook the Cocoa Mixture:
In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in 1 cup of water and 5 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Gradually stir the cocoa mixture into the flour mixture, blending until smooth.
- Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Leave the cake in the pan and prepare the frosting while it’s still warm.
