Best-Ever Homemade Sloppy Joes

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey with the diced green bell pepper and onion. Cook until the meat is fully browned and vegetables are soft, about 8–10 minutes.
  2. Drain: Carefully drain off excess grease from the pan.
  3. Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Simmer: Pour the sauce over the cooked meat mixture. Stir well to combine. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Serve: Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve warm. Pairs perfectly with chips, fries, or a side salad.
